Knapp's Relational Model
Knapp's Relational Model
For this post I will be analyzing one of my past friendships through Knapp's Relational Model. For this case I chose one of my long term friendship that came to an end over the summer. Knapp's Relational Model is a model for how relationship grow and develop over time! This model illustrates how relationships form, maintain, and come apart. For my relationship with this friend we met freshman year of college and decided to hang out together. The more we hung out the closer our relationship intensified. We became such good friends that the next year we moved in together. Living together created lots of bonding between us, but also some differences and issue began to arise. Having a friendship is a different relationship than having a roommate relationship which we quickly discovered. As our friendship went on living together brought up a lot of issues that stagnated the relationship to the point where we started growing apart. When it was time to renew the lease we both had agreed to go our separate ways. It was a beautiful friendship and I don't think either is to blame, our living styles were just different which ultimately affected the relationship to the point of departure. We communicated every now and then online and like each others posts, but the friendship leaves at just that. The stage I would currently put us is terminated.
